The Ultra start list spans 19 nationalities, from Chile and Lithuania to Finland and South Africa, alongside the endurance nations of France, the Netherlands, and Spain. At 14 and 61, the youngest and oldest riders define a field that selects on will, not age. More than a third are riding their first ultra-distance event. Three hundred and thirty kilometres of remote Galloway terrain will decide what that means.
