Building Skills, Ecosystems, and Opportunity with World Bicycle Relief
At The Gralloch, we know the power of a bike—the freedom, the independence, the sense of possibility it brings. For our friends at World Bicycle Relief, that same power is transforming lives in communities across the globe.
Take La Guajira, Colombia, where transportation barriers make education, healthcare, and economic opportunity a daily challenge. There, the Buffalo Bicycle isn’t just a ride, it’s a lifeline. And at the heart of it all is the Buffalo Academy, World Bicycle Relief’s pioneering programme that equips students with the skills to maintain their bikes, trains future mechanics, and strengthens the local bicycle ecosystem.
Through hands-on workshops, preventive maintenance training, and advanced mechanic certification, the Academy is helping students and community members build confidence, skills, and ownership. In 2024 alone, 800 students received training, and by 2025, the program reached nearly 2,800 students, both in person and through its virtual platform, expanding access across Colombia.

The Buffalo Academy exemplifies how World Bicycle Relief builds sustainable mobility ecosystems:
- Local mechanics provide ongoing maintenance and repairs.
- Retail shops ensure spare parts are always within reach.
- Community committees empower locals to manage and sustain the program.
As cyclists, we understand the joy of a smooth ride on gravel roads. For these communities, a Buffalo Bicycle and a robust support ecosystem mean freedom, safety, and opportunity—transforming mobility into a bridge to education, work, and independence.
World Bicycle Relief isn’t just distributing bikes; they’re creating resilient, self-sustaining cycling communities—one rider, one repair, one Buffalo Bicycle at a time. And we’re proud to ride alongside them.
